Misericordia

I did not know that there was a fascinating story behind the little grey dress with the thin golden edgings when I bought it at a boutique in Bordeaux’s old town. I was back home when I first looked at the label.

Why Misericordia / Compassion ? What a strange name for a dress! Stranger even the Spanish subtitle: Manos Espiritu y Corazón / Hands, Spirit and Heart. I googled it and found out about the man behind the label. French designer Aurelyen was so moved by a trip to Peru that he went back to work in the slums of Lima. Eventually, he founded the Centre La Cabana de Alta Costura Misericordia in Lima where he employs 40 dressmakers providing them with a livelyhood.
His company is a mixture of social action and artistic creation. Lucha por tus ideales / Fight for your Ideals is Aurelyen’s motto. Misericordia’s clothes are sold both in Peru and in France.
