I am a seventy something world traveller and my dress code is all about context and mood. Where do I happen to be today? How do I feel this morning? Eclectic is my key word. Combine a high-end item with streetwear and you will look fabulous. The other key word is travel. During the last twelve years I have been staying on three continents and writing travel books. Since then I am living in AND: in France AND South Africa AND Germany. My fashion finds around the world define my style. Thus, my mayonnaise is sometimes plainly homemade, sometimes peppered with exotic spices.

I got my inspiration from a rabbit and from a New York based aficionado of silver hair chic. An eternally youthful bunny may not be an obvious role model for a silver surfer, but Fifi Lapin’s playful sketches and funny notes on the ever so urgent question What shall I wear today? did the trick for me. Thank you, Fifi! And thank you Ari! Ari Seth Cohen’s blog and books of his accidental models on the streets of New York inspired me to set up my own fashion blog. A whiff of sunny California and good humour paired with useful technical advice came from Aimée Song’s book Capture your Style where she explains how to post photos successfully. I do not aim at her level of professionalism but it was fun to read.

For the layout of my blog I am much indebted to my daughter Sophie who took most of the fashion photos with good taste, endless patience and a pinch of humour. Her friend Clemens generously  contributed his IT skills here and there to spice up my blog.

    I enjoy your site. I wish I had started a fashion site when I started writing about the animal bigfoot. I've lived long enough now that I'm being called upon to be an OLD LADY. I wish to do the best that I can. An added difficulty is that I'm overweight. GRRRRR...

    Linda, I am so glad that you enjoy my site. Believe me, putting on some weight means less wrinkles and there is always the right outfit. I see that in South Africa where generous curves are not a problem but an asset.

Finis Terrae

I didn't discover the end of the world, yet. I only came to Tierra del Fuego , the Land of Fire, which is indeed a sort of Finis Terrae. The Argentinians call it Fin del Mundo . There, I had the privilege to talk with the American lady scientist Natalie Prosser Goodall, who discovered and assembled the most intriguing collection of Arctic sea mammals further to be read about in my travel book Woanders / Somewhere else (for details see www.edithwerner.com ). Some 40 years ago Natalie came to this wild country on a short stint as a student, met a local sheep farmer and stayed. Matching Melissa's

Shopping for Christmas in midsummer is always a bit strange. So I need a respite from the Cape’s blazing sun at Melissa ’s. Melissa was the first to introduce the concept of Deli cum coffeeshop to South Africa and she is still the best. Today my outfit happens to match her French style furniture and it goes as well with the sign board of my local fruit market who is wishing me a Merry Christmas. I am no chameleon seeking camouflage but fitting in with your surroundings can be so satisfying not the least during the Happy Season. Some say it is the Silly Season due to all that shopping and merry-making frenzy. Who cares? My Christmas tree in the from of a red poinsettia will be greeting me at home and I am looking forward to a balmy evening with Carols by Candlelight in the semitropical garden of the Shuttleworth family whose son has done a trip to the International Space Station some years ago. May be, he has yearned to watch them celebrating Christmas from above?
